Badger's Holt and Pine Marten View are small, unique, off-grid campervan park-up spots within Frugaldom in southwest Scotland. The project grew from a lifelong passion for wildlife and quiet, natural places. After several years of watching the lie of the land and planting over 10,000 trees to rewild what had previously been clear felled, we wanted to create a simple, low-impact space where other nature lovers could experience the same sense of closeness to the landscape.
Spending all of our free time here has taught us how much wildlife thrives when the environment is left undisturbed. Our aim is to offer visitors a peaceful place to stay that respects the rhythms of nature, totally off-grid and allowing a maximum of just three campervans at any one time. (The third spot will be named soon.) The highlight for many guests is the chance to see wild badgers and pine martens — an experience that still feels magical, even after years of observing them.
We welcome birdwatchers, photographers, vanlife travellers and anyone seeking a quiet, authentic connection to Scotland’s wildlife. Our approach is simple: provide a safe, secluded place to stay, share what we know about the local animals, and protect the land that makes this place special. If you value nature, tranquillity and respectful travel, you’ll feel at home here.
Frugaldom is also home to several rescued ponies, a couple of goats and a few feral cats who somehow managed to find their way here. You may also spot the bunnies, the occasional deer, red kites, buzzards, hen harriers, barn and tawny owls, woodpeckers and Phillip the pheasant, among other species.
There is also an art in nature project, which now displays around 70 individual sculptures made from wildwood, driftwood, general rubbish and collected beach debris. Most of these environmental artworks, or ecoarts, are home to a variety of small critters. If you are coming to visit, it is highly recommended you bring binoculars and camera.
