Frugal is the Keyword

Let's not forget the origins of Frugaldom as the frugal part is the most important part. It all began as a challenge in 1999, when appearing as a column named the 'Scottish Pound' in a newspaper. From then until now, budgets have been drawn up, calculated, analysed and utilised to get the best out of life without racking up debt. Debt freedom is a direct result of frugal living and every penny counts. Kill debt, save, grow a new lifestyle and share the benefits.

One major benefit we can attribute to frugal living is Frugaldom. The culmination of savings that afforded the freedom to invest in a better lifestyle. The great outdoors beckoned. Nature called and our rewilding journey began.

In 2014 we began planting trees, initially as part of the Woodland Trust's World War 1 Centenary project. We planted over 1,000 trees each year between 2014 and 2019 in honour and remembrance of all who fought for our freedom one hundred years before - and we dedicated part of our life's work to commemorating the many horses lost in active service. One of the first things you see as you enter the gate into Frugaldom is the ecoarts war horse, standing alongside the slate memorial plaque depicting both red and purple poppies.

Now, we are proud to offer anyone the opportunity to visit, join the Friends of Frugaldom and get back to nature to witness what has been achieved so far. We still follow a very frugal lifestyle and are more than happy to discuss this with anyone. Debt brings a dark veil to many who cannot see a way through, but things do get better.

The reason for posting the chart of food prices? It is about perspective. It is about looking at the bigger picture, seeing the truth and proving to yourself that freedom to do what we want to do is achievable if we take things one step, one penny, or one minute at a time. (It's also in honour of the humble corned beef, or 'bully beef', as a simple staple in the diets of so many who have gone before, including those on military rations during wartimes.)

Work out what you want to achieve and then relentlessly pursue your personal goals. Kicking free from debt, stopping bad spending, casting off the burden and stress of consumer driven society are all within your grasp, you just need to adapt your financial diet to grow a healthier future.

Every penny raised by the Frugaldom project gets spent on the project, whether it is providing care and feed for rescued animals, creating new habitats for wildlife, improving the wild landscape or making the place more accessible for all who care to share the dream. Make what you will of the random food prices but something as simple as a grocery list as part of a household budget really can bend and shape your future.

Here's to frugal(free)dom! We look forward to welcoming you here soon, be it for an hour, a day, a weekend or a week. We offer affordable options that can suit any budget.
