Day 6 of Extremely Frugal February - Sofa Warming Party

Day 6 of 28 - Stovies and Sofa Shenanigans

It's now beginning to look like we have a living room! Better still, we have the neighbours coming around in 10 minutes for a celebration 'room-warming' party. The carpet is laid, curtain rail and curtains hung, sofa cleaned and in place, a chair by the fireside, homemade footstool/mini ottoman by the window, fire lit and drinks at the ready. I have a makeshift lamp table comprising the two storage boxes, one atop the other, covered in a curtain, but its enough for the lamp.

Porridge breakfast, neighbours here for homemade soup at lunchtime while helping fit carpets and man-handle the big sofa and then we had the leftover potatoes, some mince and a tin of beans all warmed together in a big pot over the stove.

An all round good day, minimum spend and a lovely new room to enjoy... amidst the chaos that is still the rest of the house. :)

Sorry this is short but it's time to entertain guests here in Frugaldom. :)

    1. Thanks, RW. :) Still got some glossing and finishing touches to do before the bookshelves etc. get moved in there but it was sufficient to have a lovely chatty evening over a few drinks last night. :)

  2. So nice of the man to give it away and better yet of having such great friends and neighbors to help you make its way to your home. Enjoy!

    1. Hi CC, I think he was more than pleased for us to cover his fuel costs and then crack open mine finest bottle of malt last night. It was a mii celebration that could become a much more regular event now that we have a much more sociable space to share with guests.

    3. Not quite sure what Scottish equivalents to those are, as the rooms are both at the front of the house, kitchen & bathroom are at back and other two bedrooms upstairs above sitting room and living room. When we bought the house at first, three of the rooms were bedrooms, so I converted the downstairs bedroom into sitting room/spare room/multi-purpose room, if that helps. :)

  5. Yay ... it fitted through the door.

It looks brilliant ... I think it should be the 'party room', lots of cosy evenings with a bottle of something nice (home brewed of course) with friends and neighbours ahead for you I hope.

    1. I am loving my 'new' room already and I haven't even got the mini-bar made yet. LOL Last night's toast was by way of 'the guid stuff" - I opened my bottle of 12 year-old malt that was given to me in 2004 as a leaving pressie from a colleague at work in Suffolk. That is how pleased I am with my leather sofa. :D (Cheers, John!)
